O you who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger (Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and render not vain your deeds. 47:33

“Celebrating Eid Milad-Un Nabi (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) on to the scale of Islamic Shar’ia”

All praise is for Allaah, Lord of all the Worlds, who ordered us to follow His Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and to call to His Way, and may Allaah send praises and blessings of peace upon our Prophet Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and upon his family, his Companions, and those who truly follow them until the Day of Judgment.

We should be extremely thankful to Allaah Ta’ala for making us among the mankind and endowed us with the blessing of being Muslims. Further to this, He (Allaah Ta’ala) has granted us the everlasting favour of being amongst the Ummah of the Greatest of all creation, our beloved Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). If we ever contemplate expressing our Shukar (gratefulness) for the innumerable bounties bestowed upon us by Allaah Ta’ala, then not only will this be impossible, it is something beyond our capabilities. In fact, we are truly unable to even count the favours bestowed upon us.

In our previous mail “Every Bid’ah (innovation in Deen) is deviation” we have concluded that, those things which are neither proven from the Noble Quran, authentic Sunnah, nor from the actions of the first three generation are not regarded as being part of the Deen Al Islam.

Indeed, whatever was needed for the guidance of man has been revealed by Allaah Ta’ala . If still any person introduce into the Deen anything which was not taught by our beloved Nabi Muhammad Mustafa (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), then in reality he is making this claim that the Deen is incomplete and imperfect and in need of his newfangled Innovation. Alternatively, he is making this claim, that Nauthubillaah, notwithstanding being most kind and merciful (amongst mankind), he (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) did not completely show the best and most perfect way. Who is capable enough to falsify this perfect Deen or to claim imperfections therein? Thus, Imaam Malik (179 H rahimhullaah) use to say” He who innovates a Bid’ah in Islam, and he deems it a good deed, is indeed laying claim that Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), has betrayed the Rissalat (message), because Allaah Ta’ala stated, ‘On this day have I perfected for you your Deen..” therefore whatever was not (a part of) Islam on that say can most certainly not be (a part of) Islam today.” refer Kitaabul I’tisaam, Vol. 1, pg 47.

Now as for Celebrating Eid Milad-Un Nabi (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), then it’s a Bid’ah (innovation in Deen) which has absolutely no relevant proofs & evidences in the Islamic Shar’ia, nor in the life’s of the first three generation.

Allamah Ibn Ameerul Haaj Maaliki (rahimhullaah) stated “As for those bid’ahs which people regard as great acts of Ibaadat & which they regard the perpetration as being a sign of Islam, amongst which is the gathering of Meelaad which is celebrated in the month of Rabiul Awwal. The reality is that this practice comprises many bid’ahs and untoward practices..amongst the evils of this practice is “Sama” (Sufi rituals) . Even if the gathering of Meelaad are free of ‘Sama’ and they are held purely with the intention of Moulood, preparing food and inviting friends and associates, and it is free of all other evils, then too it will be a bid’ah purely because of the intention of Moulood i.e celebrating the birth of Nabi (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). This is an innovation which is added to the Deen that was not amongst the Salaf-Us-Saaliheen. It is by far better and meritorious to follow in the footsteps of the Aslaaf.” refer Mudkhal Ibn Alhaaj, vol. 1 pg 85.

Allamah Abdurrahmaan Maghribi (rahimhullaah) stated in his fatawa, “Indeed the practice of Moulood i.e celebrating the birth of Nabi (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is a bid’ah. Neither did Rasulullaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) nor the Khulaafaa (radhiallaahu anhum ajmaeen) nor the Aimmah exhort or practice it.” refer “Fatawa Allamah Abdurrahmaan Maghribi”.

At this point, some brothers may say that those who claim Celebrating Eid Milad-Un Nabi (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is Mustahab (recommended) present a list of Scholars who have supported the practice. Our response to these brothers is that, their list neither consist any of the names of Sahaabah (radhiallaahu anhum ajmaeen) nor the names of Tabieen or Tab-e-taabieen (rahmatullah alayhim), and also lacks the names of four well known Aimmah-e-Mujtahideen i.e Imaam Abu Hanifa, Imaam Malik, Imaam Shafi & Imaam Ahmed (rahmatullah alayhim), further more none of the six renowned Muhadditheen i.e Imaam Bukhari, Imaam Muslim, Imaam Abu Dawood, Imaam Tirmidhi, Imaam Ibn Majah and Imaam Nisaai (rahmatullah alayhim).

Most of the names mentioned in such list are those of Sufiya, and very few names of Ahl us-Sunnah that fall into the trap of Qiyass-e-Fassid (invalid analogical comparison). E.g. Imaam Jalaaludeen Suyooti (911 H rahimhullaah) who admitted, “There is no nass (clear text of the Nobale Quran & authentic Sunnah) on the permissibility, (of Meelaad) only Qiyass. refer “The path of Sunnah pg 182”. Some Ahl us-Sunnah only use to feed poor people on that day, and others regarded the actual extolling of the birth of the Nabi (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) as meritorious and other merely regarded it as the expression of one’s happiness. Some Ahl us-Sunnah was in favour of its permissibility in the initial stages and later retracted from this.

However, the Ulama of Ahl us-Sunnah are united that, the proofs and evidences are only from the clear and relevant text of the Nobale Quran, authentic hadith, ijma (consensus) & valid Qiyass (analogical comparison).

Ahl us-Sunnah are also united that, Actions & statements of Scholars which are contrary to the nosoos (clear text of the Nobale Quran & authentic hadith) are not considered as proof and evidences in Shar’ia.

In conclusion, we would like to make it very clear that there is no relevant nass (clear text of the Nobale Quran & authentic hadith) or established Ijma, or the action of Sahaabah (radhiallaahu anhum ajmaeen) on the permissibility of Meelaad.

Dear brother in Islam, you have by now discerned the reality of this issue by studying the above, now the choice is yours whether to Follow the Sunnah of the personalities of the best eras or the path of those who are on error?

Note : We request all to go through the above linked audio lecture followed by Q&A session.
